A typical castle

Every castle is unique. Each one was built in its own special way, responding to the natural characteristics of the site, having experienced over the centuries various attacks, demolitions, reconstructions and developments.

Regardless of this fact, castles have common elements. They were all fortifications along with being residential dwellings, changing over the centuries according the the dictates of necessity. Yet their original elements can be observed and appreciated to this day.
