Museo della grande guerra
Founded in 1924 as Museo della Redenzione and housed in Palazzo Attems (photographs of this original display are shown in room 9), Gorizia War Museum was totally reorganized in 1946 after suffering serious damage during World War II. Completely devoted to the history of World War I, the Museum contains a vast variety of documents, photographs and memorabilia illustrating the military operations which took place in the area of Gorizia, theatre of many fierce battles during the war. The display includes a rich photographic collection alongside full-size and scale reconstructions of military trenches, giving an insight into the reality of World War I. Visitors will also become acquainted with the two Italian strategists, Generals Luigi Cadorna and Armando Diaz. Exhibits include a coat worn by General Cadorna as well as a number of objects belonging to General Diaz, such as his desk and his glasses, plus letters and medals.
