Spessa di Capriva

The small locality in which the castle is located offers visitors an attentive food and wine proposal given by the Hotel Restaurant "La Tavernetta al Castello" located at the foot of the manor, and the Bar Restaurant "Hosteria del Castello" of the Castello di Spessa Golf & Country Club, open not only to sports enthusiasts but to anyone wishing to spoil themselves a little. The 18-hole golf course surrounds the castle and, together with the Italian-style garden and the park dedicated to Giacomo Casanova with its historiated tables, constitutes a green oasis that induces tranquillity and relaxation. The wine shop is always open for wine purchases.

The Spessa Castle lies on a gentle hillside and together with its park occupies a total area of 31 hectares. Another 28 hectares are dedicated to the vineyards of the farm of the same name located in the Collio DOC area. The vineyards, planted on soils formed of both grey and yellowish eocentric marls, have an average age of 15 years and are cultivated using the "capuccina" or double upside-down method.

The wine is processed in the winemaking cellar in the La Boatina area of Cormòns, while ageing takes place at Spessa Castle, in the medieval cellars dating back to the 13th century. The ancient cellars are partly dug into the rock and characterised by their terracotta floors and brick vaulted ceilings. The military bunker built in the mid-1930s can be accessed by descending 70 steps. In this unique and inimitable cellar, all the red wines of the Castello di Spessa winery are aged in numerous barriques.
