Educational visits to pulbic and private castles

"Towers, crenellated walls and drawbridges; stories of ladies and knights; stories of nobles and patriarchs... this is not legend, but our past narrated by more than 300 fortified works scattered throughout Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Intact castles, fortified abbeys, walls, strong houses and ruins are waiting to tell us about battles and alliances, heroism and stubbornness, revenge and acts of loyalty."

The Consorzio per la Salvaguardia dei Castelli Storici del Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Consortium for the Protection of Friuli-Venezia Giulia's Historic Castles) has been working since 1968 to safeguard, publicise and promote the region's castle heritage, which boasts more than 300 fortified works of various kinds.

The programme is primarily aimed at schools interested in learning more about private castles that are not normally accessible to visitors. The didactic offer is based on a playful-participative approach that allows through games and cards to make the castle experience more engaging. The visit can also be enriched by special workshops on medieval themes. Visits are reserved for organised groups, accompanied by an authorised tourist guide trusted by the Consortium, who, on request, may propose itineraries that include visits to other local realities.

Guide service (with authorised tour guide):

In some residences the guided tour is conducted directly by the owner or his representative. In this case it is not required the presence of an authorised tour guide is not required, but the entrance fee is € 2.00 per person.
