Sagra dai sèst
Every year on the first Sunday of September the famous Sagra dai Sest takes place. “Sest” is Friulian for “basket”: baskets were once used during the grape harvest, which began in September or October.
Near the town, close to the source of the River Livenza, there is an area called Palù which was reclaimed during the 19th century, where an abundance of small pliant twigs or wickers could be found. For centuries this area supplied the materials necessary to produce both small and a large baskets. Today artisans still produce the traditional baskets but have added new products and a rich series of objects for interior decorating. In addition to the production of wickerwork artisans produce items made of wood, copper, and wrought iron; all displayed as a side attraction to the main festival.
The Castle of Polcenigo can be reached by public coach services provided in nearby towns. During the festival you can taste morsels of delicious typical foods offered at several kiosks. If instead you want to satisfy a demanding appetite we recommend Da Zaja, Le Cascate or Da Regina restaurants, where wonderful food enjoyed in charming atmospheres can be savoured. Another fine place to eat is Al Gorgazzo restaurant situated in a lovely picturesque park where the beautiful Gorgazzo spring forms a reflecting pool.
