As far as two thousand years ago, at locality Torre Rosazza in Poggiobello, the fortified palace stood and the grapevines flourished. Nowadays it is the site of the Scorcio del giardino settecentesco winery and its Poggiobello wines. It is believed that the Pucinum wine so loved by Empress Livia from the 1st century B.C. was made in this area. From these hills you can view the Basilica of Aquileia, feel the distant sea breeze and enjoy protection from the cold north winds of the Alps. At the close-by Benedictine abbey dedicated monks studied and improved the quality of grapevines, fruit and olive trees.
Their passion for wine-growing continues through the Scorcio winery which grows grapevines on two natural amphitheatres situated in marl-rich soil in a sunny area, covering an area of 111 hectares of which 77 taken by vineyards. They make fine amiable wines such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco, Cabernet Franc and typical wines such as Ribolla Gialla, Verduzzo Friulano and the precious Picolit.
